Why do I need to have my meter read when I move in?

Your account with Discover Energy begins and ends with a meter read to ensure that you aren't charged for anyone else's usage, and that no one else is charged for yours. If your meter is due to be read within two weeks of your intended transfer, we may be able to use that meter read; otherwise, a special meter read will be arranged. There is a small fee for special meter reads, and we list these fees by state in our General Questions section.

Special meter reads are arranged for a date after your cooling off period has ended. Once the meter read is obtained, we can finalise the transfer process for you to become a Discover Energy customer.
