2023 National Energy Bill Relief Package

Eligibility Residential Customers

  • Customers already receiving an existing energy concession
  • All households in Queensland with an active electricity account
  • Customers who don't currently receive an energy concession who:
    • have a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
    • receive Family Tax Benefits A and B
    • receive a carer's allowance

Eligibility Small Business Customers

  • must be on a separately metered business tariff, with an annual electricity consumption less than the threshold for your state or territory 
  • If you run your small business using electricity from your home, you are not eligible.

How to apply

Residential Customers with an existing energy concession

The Energy Bill Relief payment will be automatically applied to your electricity account. You do not need to apply.

Residential Customers without an existing energy concession

If you have a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, receive a carer's allowance or Family Tax Benefits A and B you will be contacted by Services Australia or the Dept of Veteran Affairs over the coming months with advice on how to apply.

Note: If you are eligible for an energy rebate but don’t receive it,  you will need to apply for a concession and provide your concession details to us. Click here for more information. You will then receive the bill relief payment automatically.

Small Business

Be on a separately metered business tariff, with an annual electricity consumption less than the threshold for your state or territory.

Note:

  • Small Business assessments are based on historic data where available or extrapolating available data where data is not available
  • The business is not:
    • a government agency or government-owned business
    • linked to other sites, that together exceed the jurisdictions threshold
    • on a deemed arrangement
    • a financial institution (including banks and ATMS)
    • a utility 

Rebate payments

Payments will be made directly to eligible customers' electricity accounts. Payments will be paid in instalments, the dates and amounts will vary depending on your state and territories.

  • Energy Consumption Threshold 100MWh
  • Plus an estimated savings of  $624 for small businesses with average electricity use by reducing electricity bills through the government’s large-scale feed-in tariff scheme (savings will vary depending on electricity consumption).
NSW Residential $500 Quarterly Instalments from 31st July 2023  
NSW Small Business $650 One energy bill relief payment will be provided per small business in the financial year 2023-24.
  • Energy Consumption Threshold 100MWh
  • Other exclusions may apply.
QLD Residential $700 Quarterly Instalments from 31st July 2023
  • For households who already receive an electricity concession.
QLD Residential $550 Quarterly Instalments from 31st July 2023
  • for all other households with an active electricity account
QLD Small Business $650 Quarterly Instalments from 31st July 2023
  • Energy Consumption Threshold 100MWh
SA Residential $550 Quarterly Instalments from 31st July 2023
  • for all other households with an active electricity account
SA Small Business $650 Quarterly Instalments from 31st July 2023
  • Energy Consumption Threshold 160MWh
VIC Residential $250 2 instalments from Aug 2023
  • Applicable to customers eligible for existing energy concessions
  • Plus $250 direct payment to all households by applying for the Power Saving Bonus payment.
VIC Residential $250 One-off Payment 1 November 2023
  • Applicable to customers not eligible for existing energy concessions
  • Plus $250 direct payment to all households by applying for the Power Saving Bonus payment.
VIC Small Business $325 One-off Payment 7 August 2023
  • Energy Consumption Threshold 40MWh
