What Concessions/Rebates could I get in QLD?

COVID-19-related rebates

As of 24 March 2020, the QLD Government is offering a Household Utility Assistance package to residential customers, and a Power Bill Relief Package to eligible business customers.

 

Household Utility Assistance Package

Who may be eligible The Household Utility Assistance Package will go to all households. This includes homeowners, tenants, customers who receive an electricity bill from their landlord or body corporate, and customers in communities with card-operated meters.
Rebate value

Households receiving the Queensland Government's Household Utility Package will see a one-off payment towards their upcoming energy bill. 

  • $200 applied to your upcoming electricity bill 

Origin is working with the Queensland Government to get this rebate to customers as soon as possible.

Power Bill Relief Package for small and medium businesses

Who may be eligible All small businesses whose total consumption is less than 100,000 kilowatt hours (kWh).
Rebate value

Businesses receiving the Queensland Government's Power Bill Relief package will see a one-off payment towards their upcoming electricity bill.   

  • $500 applied to your business' upcoming electricity bill   

Discover Energy is working with the Queensland Government to get this rebate to customers as soon as possible.  Businesses receiving the rebate will see payment over the coming months based on when their bill is next due.

Electricity Asset Ownership Dividend

Who may be eligible The Asset Ownership Dividend will go to all residential Queensland customers where electricity is charged separately, and for example, not included as part of the rent.

Customers who receive an electricity bill from their landlord or body corporate are eligible but will need to apply.  
Rebate value

Households receiving the Queensland Government's Electricity Asset Ownership Dividend will see another one-off payment towards their upcoming energy bill between September and November, 2020.

How to apply For households that receive an electricity bill directly, this rebate will be automatically applied to your upcoming bill, you do not need to apply or get in touch with us.

Customers who receive an electricity bill from their landlord or body corporate will need to fill out an application for the Asset Ownership Dividend, 2020.

Home Emergency Assistance Scheme

Who may be eligible The Home Emergency Assistance Scheme helps low-income households pay their current electricity or natural gas bill when they face a short-term financial crisis or an unforeseen emergency.
Rebate value One-off payments of up to $720 to use towards you electricity or natural gas accounts, once every 2 years.

How to apply

Call us on 1300 946 898 and ask about Home Energy Emergency Assistance (HEEA). We’ll put you in touch with our customer advocacy team, who’ll help you apply for the scheme.

How to apply

Register your life support equipment with us

If you do have life support equipment, let us know. We'll tell your distributor to make sure they tell you about any planned power outages.

To register your life support equipment with Origin:

  1. Contact us on 1300 946 898 to request a Medical Confirmation Form.
  2. Ask your doctor to sign it and confirm that you need the equipment.

Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme

Who may be eligible

People with a medical condition that makes it difficult to self-regulate their body temperature when exposed to extreme heat or cold.
